How were salt pans worked before industrialisation?
Solar evaporation in shallow terraced ponds, worked in seasonal shifts by families who held hereditary rights to specific pans. Rakes were wooden; iron corroded within a season.

What does vitrified sand actually look like underfoot?
Fulgurite and trinitite are glassy, greenish, and brittle — they fracture conchoidally rather than crumbling. Walking on a wide vitrified surface would be closer to walking on ice than on stone.
